GlobalPlatform is pleased to be invited to participate and support the promotion of smart cards in China at the World IC Card Summit in Beijing , May 2007.

The goal of GlobalPlatform is to promote a worldwide infrastructure for smart card implementations across multiple industries, while ensuring card issuers continue to have the freedom to choose from a variety of cards, terminals and back-end systems. This, in turn continues to drive the ability of consumers to use smart cards for a wide variety of functions across a broad range of industries.

This past year, GlobalPlatform has witnessed significant growth in the adoption of our specifications in the Asia Pacific region and abroad. For example, our infrastructure has facilitated the rapid growth of mobile technology to converge with financial payment applications and providers and continued to witness trends within governments to converge various public service applications on one card. It is this success that we look forward to sharing with the Chinese market.

GlobalPlatform realizes the tremendous opportunities the Chinese market presents and is committed to continuing our education on the benefits of adopting GlobalPlatform standards for these single and multi-application smart card programs within the financial, mobile telecom, and government/ID sectors.
